Ashfall Legion is the kind of RPG that rewards planning. You build a party of four, each with a role, and fights play out on a small grid where positioning matters as much as raw stats. Get flanked and even an easy encounter can fall apart fast.
The story branches in ways that actually stick. Choices we made three chapters in changed which allies showed up later, and one companion left our party entirely after a decision we regretted. The writing isn't Shakespeare, but it's confident and never overstays its welcome.
Menus can feel dense at first and the tutorial dumps a lot on you at once. Push through the first hour and it clicks. The autosave is reliable, so it's easy to play in short chunks between other things.
